Our History
Auburn Counseling has its roots through IKRON, a non-profit located just three mintues from our current location. IKRON is one of the oldest community mental health agencies in the Greater Cincinnati area. Founded in 1969 as the University of Cincinnati Rehabilitation Center, The Board of Trustees in voted to change the status of the Rehabilitation Center to a community-based non-profit in 1983. The name was changed to IKRON (Integration of Knowledge and Resources for Occupational Needs). Participants at IKRON have access to one of the industry’s leading and nationally accredited vocational, educational, and mental health facilities.
In 2019, after successfully supporting individuals all over the Greater Cincinnati area for over 30 years, IKRON expanded to its second location on Auburn Ave, directly next door to the Auburn Counseling's building on Wellington Pl. With IKRON's original connection with the University of Cincinnati, it only made sense that we would expand in the Clifton and Mount Auburn neighborhoods. This allows IKRON to continue its mission to assist adults and youth who use IKRON’s services to build self-confidence, attain greater self-sufficiency, lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives and to obtain and maintain satisfying employment. This mission remains alive and well to this day and continues to grow.
Over the years, IKRON has employed many wonderful clinicians who are passionate about this mission. Given IKRON’s extensive history of providing psychotherapy and counseling services, a transition to starting a private practice supported by the agency made sense both for our great clinicians and also to bring our years of affordable quality care to a wider audience. Being in the Mt. Auburn district, and with IKRON-Seattle’s ties to their own Auburn neighborhood, Auburn Counseling was created.
